One of the most idealized and abstract images of America is a burning spark that lies in the hearts of many across the world, known as the American dream. This phrase alone carries with it a remarkable source of hope, life, dreams, aspirations, and much more. I think that the American dream varies for everyone, because everyone has different goals, hopes, and dreams. However, I think that the American dream does hold something in common for everyone though; it is a belief that where you want to be, who you want to become, and what you want to achieve can be attained through the freedom and privileges enjoyed in America. To my family and I (being United States citizens our whole life), we have not been exposed to the oppressive living conditions in other countries and have not therefore had a burning desire to find a better life. However, we are grateful for the many opportunities available to us in this country and use them to develop into stronger, better, and more capable people. The American dream for me is a sense of encouragement and motivation I turn to that allows me to find my place in this world and to make my contribution to society even as a young female. As I grow older though, I believe that many of my hopes and aspirations will stay the same, although many new ones will be added. The American dream is a vehicle to brighter days, to greater equality, to more peace, to more care and appreciation for one another. The American Dream is a chance to leave behind a set of footprints worth following.
